PROJECT statement

Adobo is not well-known New Zealand as we’re geographically far from the countries where it’s most common. When adobo is mentioned to someone unfamiliar with it they may associate it with Mexican cuisine, as it’s more widely recognised. This case study will explore and highlight its cultural significance, adaptability, and delicious flavor profile. Beyond sharing a typical recipe for Filipino adobo, my goal is to educate users about its history and the history of the Philippines in a bright and engaging manner.

topics covered

Although the Philippines does not have an official national dish, adobo's widespread popularity has made it an iconic part of Filipino culture. Deeply ingrained in the daily lives of Filipinos, adobo is a beloved ulam (dish) that represents both pride and cultural heritage 🇵🇭

This infographic offers an exploration of adobo, starting with an introduction to the dish and a brief look at its history. It highlights the key ingredients and showcases the regional variations across the Philippines, while also discussing adobo’s influence on other cultures. The infographic features a recipe example, including a "Cooking with Tito Bobby" section, and touches on the presence of Filipino cuisine in New Zealand.

illustration style

Inspired by the art supplies of my childhood, the crayon illustrations add a touch of nostalgia. The paper texture used throughout the infographic further enhances the handmade feel, creating a welcoming and engaging experience. This playful style complements the detailed information, making the content more approachable.

usability testing

For accessibility to a wider audience, usability testing was conducted with six users unfamiliar with Filipino adobo. This allowed for unbiased insights from users without preconceived notions about the topic, helping to identify potential areas for improvement and ensuring that the design is inclusive and effective for all users.
